About V-AiR
This year, our signature Virtual Artist-in-Residency (V-AiR) will grant three (3) south Texas artists stipends to work remotely for three months in order to create a new body of artwork while working closely with a mentor and engaging with a virtual audience.
The application process is open to artists who live and work in Laredo and RGV. Artists will be selected by a jury composed of Cultivarte Laredo and other creative professionals based on the quality of their work, presentation, as well as artists’ ability to outline how they want to use the residency.
The following will be taken into account:
Ability to utilizing online resources to further intellectual and creative inquiry
Evidence of a vision to explore, develop, and create new artwork
Evidence of novel and experimental ideas
Evidence of building a relationship with an online audience
Alignment with Cultivarte’s mission and vision
Selected artists will gain exposure, make connections with the greater South Texas art community, and provide an alternative platform to meaningfully expand ideas about their artistic and creative processes. This residency is ideal for multidisciplinary, visual, performance and media artists interested in exploring and expanding their creativity and artwork.
V-AiR is designed to contribute to the professional and artistic growth of selected artists, and encourages self-identified up-and-coming and emerging artists to explore innovative ways to work with materials, concepts, and activate their own spaces to be conducive to focused work. V-AiR Artists will be expected to make full use of their time.
Cultivarte Laredo welcomes proposals from individual artists, collaborating artists, and collectives. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. The V-AiR Residency will culminate in a group exhibition inclusive of the 2023 AIR Cohort in the Fall.
