Cultivarte Laredo, in partnership with the Visual Arts Department at Laredo College, presents the artwork of seven local artists during an exhibition titled Reflective Fluctuations (Fluctuaciones Reflexivas) hosted at the Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery at Laredo College, inside the Visual and Performing Arts Center that is located at the Fort McIntosh Campus, West End Washington Street.

Reflective Fluctuations will include contemporary works in painting, ceramics, video and an audio/visual installation. The artists included in the show are Allan Gindic, Carlos Grajeda, Noël Heller, Shellee Laurent, Lizett Montiel, Pedro Morales, and Cristina Zorrilla Speer; all from Laredo, and have been previously featured by Cultivarte Laredo.

Each artist brings something different to the exhibition. Together, their observations are rendered in diverse themes and techniques that generate reflection as a source from the physical world, personal recollections, and/or socially constructed ideals. 

Reflective Fluctuations is curated by Maritza Bautista, artist, educator, and executive director of Cultivarte Laredo.

“What unites the artists is the border, a location that is defined by a collision of sorts; geographically, socially, and culturally,” says Bautista. “With this show, we invite the audience to cultivate their own ideas and to re-imagine how art exists, and how it creates spaces within all of us to re-imagine, or reflect and connect with conversations that declare the artist’s presence here, in Laredo.”

Opening Night! The exhibition continues from 7:30 PM - 10 PM with a special performance by Rizu X (Lizett Montiel), one of the Reflective Fluctuations artists.  The performance will take place at Los Olvidados, a coffee shop and boutique gallery located at 309 Flores Avenue in downtown Laredo.  Everyone is invited to this FREE event.
