Protect Our River Mural

Cultivarte Laredo and Keep Laredo Beautiful partnered to raise awareness for the environment.

The City of Laredo Environmental Services Department invited the community to participate in a Call to Artists to paint a mural in the Zacate Creek area. We partnered with their staff to create a community project that would elevate environmental awareness as well as bring color to the adjacent hike/bike trail and the surrounding neighborhood. The city staff coordinated all resources, and a group of volunteers planned and executed the mural.

Our members worked together to achieve a collective design thanks to the skills of architecture student, Brenda Tijerina.

We worked over the course of two weekends to complete the mural. The process included: power washing the area, priming, outlining, painting, and sealing.

We hope to continue to create public art projects throughout Laredo.
