Meet V-AiR Artist Josuè Rawmírez. Josuè (he, him, el) is a multi-disciplinary artist living and practicing in Esto’k Gna land or the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas-Mexico border. He is inspired by the Rio Grande landscapes, its visual language and everyday practices. He is a Managing Director for Trucha, a multimedia organization and online platform focused on the arts, culture and social movements of the Lower Rio Grande region. He is a founding member and is responsible for the creative / cultural programming. Rawmírez earned a BA in Mexican American Studies with a focus on Public Policy from the University of Texas at Austin. He works through visual art, installation, crafts, and performance. His artwork has been exhibited in the MexicArte Museum, Art League Houston, Craft in America as well in publications like Remezcla and Pitchfork. Aunque la historia de Piri el Soñador y Coyote Volador está construida en software 3D, la narrativa se desarrolla y se presenta al espectador principalmente a través de pinturas con aerógrafo. Figueirido dice: “La obra terminada se parece mucho al mundo digital, pero cuando uno mira la pintura en persona, se da cuenta de que hay material en la superficie, y esa fluctuación entre lo digital y lo físico realmente me emociona.” // Although the story of Piri the Dreamer and Flying Coyote is built in 3D software, the narrative is unfolded and presented to the viewer primarily through airbrushed paintings. Josias Figueirido was born in Santa Eugenia de Riveira, a small fishing town in the northwest of Spain. After completing his undergraduate studies in London, he moved to Philadelphia to pursue his graduate studies. Since 2020 he has been living in Laredo, Texas, where he combines his studio work with teaching at Texas A&M International University. Figueirido has been in residence at Wassaic Project, Millay Arts, and Vermont Studio Center among other places, and he has exhibited his work in national and international solo and group exhibitions. Among other awards, Figueirido received a NEA grant for a collaborative project. His work is in public and private collections such as The Horseman Collection of American Art and the Francisco Fernandez del Riego Museum. Primarily a painter, Figueirido embraces technology as a tool to aid and create work. His work shows the aesthetic impact of the screen, and it addresses topics related to immigration. He is a visual story teller who uses fiction as its main genre. // Josias Figueirido nació en Santa Eugenia de Riveira, un pueblo pequeño pescador en el noroeste de España.
