DETAILED DESCRIPTION
With V-AiR, Cultivarte Laredo hopes to create a meaningful residency experience for 4 artists during a 3-month period while they create new artwork and connect with a virtual audience for the culminating V-AiR Group Exhibition scheduled for the fall 2022.
Artists will gain exposure, make connections with the greater South Texas community and provide an alternative platform to meaningfully expand ideas about their creative and artistic process.
Four artists will be selected by a jury composed of Cultivarte Laredo lead staff and other creative professionals based on the quality of their work, organization of their proposals, as well as their ability to outline the vision of their residencies.
The selection committee will take the following into account:
Utilizing online resources to further the artist’s intellectual and creative inquiry
Evidence of novel and experimental ideas
Alignment with Cultivarte Laredo’s mission and vision
Ability to build a relationship with a virtual audience
Selected V-AiR Artists will be expected to make full use of their time.
A major component of V-AiR is for selected artists to invite other artists, in or out of Laredo, to engage in virtual artist talks. The artist talks will help broaden the scope of the artists’ work critically thus creating a platform to discuss issues important to them, help develop their creative process, and expand their creative network. Issues discussed will range from economy, themes and mediums in artwork, the history of art, spaces of art, and business skills for artists.
Cultivarte lead staff will lead weekly check-ins with the artists and offer regular updates about V-AiR on its social media, and may ask the artists for access to their work or to provide updates as is relevant to their practice. Selected artists will receive a $1,250 stipend to invest into their work.
The V-AiR residency will culminate in a group exhibition inclusive of all AIR (artists-in-residence) in the Fall 2022.
Please note: this is an online, remote artist-in-residence program.
